About

I feel incredibly fortunate to have been born and raised in Cornwall, surrounded by such inspiring landscapes and coastlines. I am happiest when I am creating, whether working with clay or paint.

Julie Murdoch-George trained in Studio Ceramics at Falmouth College of Arts and later taught in Further Education locally before becoming self-employed more than 20 years ago. During that time she has exhibited widely, from Cornwall to the Shetland Islands.

Although ceramics formed the foundation of her training, painting has always been her passion. Today, whenever she can, she spends her time in her studio experimenting with colour, texture and movement, developing a looser, more gestural style. Regular life drawing has also played an important role in shaping her work.

Inspired by the ever-changing beauty around her, Julie mainly paints contemporary landscapes and seascapes, working primarily in oils and aiming to capture the atmosphere, light and energy of the Cornish environment.

Julie is a member of the St Ives School of Painting and attends weekly life drawing sessions. She is also an associate member of Penwith Gallery (St Ives) and a member of Coverack Art Society and St Piran’s Artists.
